Non-Municipal Water

The Wellness range of filters are designed for use with municipal (potable) micro-biologically safe water. If you are on rainwater or other sources of non-municipal supplies we have a range of filtration solutions guaranteed to produce potable quality water that is suitable for the LivingWater range of drinking water filters.

"People who choose to use rainwater for drinking and cooking should be aware of potential risks associated with microbiological and chemical contamination. Rainwater tanks in urban areas can be contaminated with airborne contaminants from heavy traffic, smelters and heavy industry."

Choosing the Right System

When choosing a non-municipal filtration system the most important consideration is the quality of water to be filtered.

  • Rainwater/Tank
Rainwater quality will vary depending on the condition of the roof and tank and the amount of organic matter and sediment in the water.  Other considerations include; Is the tank drained and cleand regularly, Is a leafguard and first flush diversion system is in place ; Is there a lot of dust or dirt that settles on your roof ?

If tree leaves or other organic matter can be seen in your water then we strongly recommend the use of our RainDisc filter.  This is a permanent, easily cleaned filter that will remove large organic matter before it can prematurely block filters designed to remove fine particulates and bacteria.

Filtration Components

Here are some of the components used in our non-muncipal systems.

Point of Use or Point of Entry

Once you have determined whether or not you need a RainDisc, the next step is determine whether to filter just drinking water or all water entering the home.

  • Point of Use - POU
POU refers to filtration at the point where you will be drinking water from the faucet. In this case, only water for drinking purposes is treated.

  • Point of Entry - POE
POE refers to filtration for all water entering the dwelling. In this case all water for drinking, bathing and other purposes is filtered.

In most cases POU systems are all that is required to provide clean safe drinking water.  However, if you are seeking total filtration protection for all your drinking and bathing water then a POE system is the best choice.
